In line with the present Covid-19 crises, Ethio-Swedish Alumni Network's Board of members recognized the need to mobilize members to donate blood at blood banks found at cities where members reside. Blood donation is essential for hospitals to be able to take care of those who need it. The demand for blood products (blood, platelets and plasma) is constant, even when the world isn’t in the midst of a global pandemic.
Interested members, due to movement restrain, may find it difficult to
make it to the blood bank by mass transport. Therefore, ESAN, even if it
has limited resource, will reimburse up to 200 ETB for transportation cost.
Who can donate?
- Healthy people who have no flu-like symptoms and who have not had contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
- ESAN members residing outside of Addis Ababa are encouraged to participate in blood donation in their respective nearest facilities. There will be further communication to facilitate and sync the donation at all major cities of Ethiopia.
- Interested Ethio-Swedish Alumni network members can invite friends and relatives to donate.
How often can a healthy individual can donate?
- Whole blood donation – every 8 weeks (56 days).
“You can still go out and give blood. Social distancing does not have to mean social disengagement.”
